Merits of humility

sir talavaaiaa birakhu hai hoi sahas phal suphal phaladaa.

The head (root) of the tree remains downwards and there for it is laden with flowers and fruit.

inrmlu nIru vKwxIAY isru nIvw nIvwix clMdw ]

niramalu neeru vakhaaneeai siru neevaan neevaani chaladaa.

The water is known as pure because it flows downward.

siru ouchaa neevayn charan guramoukhi pairee seesu pavandaa.

The head is higher and the feet lower but even then the head bows on the feet of the gurmukh.

sabhadoo neevee dharati hoi anu dhanu sabhu sai saaru sahandaa.

The lowest is the earth which bears the burden of the whole world and of the wealth in it.

dhannu dharatee aohu daau dhannu guru sikh saadhoo pairu dharandaa.

That land and that place is blest where the Guru, the Sikh and ..he holymen put their feet.

charan dhoorhi paradhaan kari sant vayd jasu gaavi sounandaa.

That the dust of the feet of the saints is the highest is told even by the Vedas.
