Master and discipleship

peer mureedee gaakharhee peeraan peeru guraan guru jaanai.

Discipleship of the Guru is a difficult task; any pir or Guru of the Gurus knows it.

siqguru dw aupdysu lY vIh iekIh aulMiG is\wxY ]

satiguru daa oupadaysu lai veeh ikeeh ulaghi siaanai.

Accepting the teachings of the true Guru and going beyond the wordly illusions He identifies that Lord.

murdw hoie murId so guru isK jwie smwie bbwxY ]

muradaa hoi mureed so guru sikh jaai samaai babaanai.

Only that Sikh of the Guru absorbs his self into Baba (Nanak) who has become dead to his carnal desires.

paireen pai paa khaak hoi tisu paa khaak paaku pateeaanai.

Fall­ing at the Guru's feet he becomes the dust of his feet; people consider such dust of the feet of a humble Sikh as sacred.

gurmuiK pMQ AgMmu hY mir mir jIvY jwie pCwxY ]

guramoukhi pandu aganmu hai mari mari jeevai jaai pachhaanai.

Unapproachable is the way of gurmukhs; while being dead they remain alive (i.e. they make only their desires dead), and ultimately they identify the Lord.

guru oupadaysu avaysu kari keerhee bhringee vaang vidaanai.

Inspired by the teach­ings of the Guru and adopting the conduct of bhritigi insect (which trans­forms small ant into bhringt), he (the disciple) attains the grandeur and great­ness of the Guru.
