Troubleshooting
Problem: App Crashes after Launch
Cause: There is not enough room on your device for all of the components of iGurbani to download. The app will take up 289 MB of space.
Solution: Remove songs, pictures or apps to make enough room. Re-install iGurbani from the App Store

What makes iGurbani stand out from the rest is the multiple translations of Gurbani as well as a new revolutionary way of displaying Vishraams by highlighting text.

Getting Started Guide

01. Introduction

Thank you for taking the time to go through this guide for iGurbani. This guide hopes to guide you through the various features and functions of the App. You can use the tabs on the left side to navigate through the different guides.


iGurbani is comprised of the following displays:

Main Menu
The main menu is where you can navigate to the different areas of iGurbani.

Gurbani Search Screen
This is where you can perform your search for Gurbani as well as control options for searching and go back and see your search history.

Shabad Display Screen
This screen is used to display the shabad you have searched. It has customizable options to adjust font sizes and enable/disable different parts.

Favorites
Favorites can be access from the main menu and it gives you control over the items you would like to save. You can delete items from the list as needed.

About Screen
The about screen gives a little bit of information about the iGurbani project.

02. Gurbani Search

The Gurbani Search screen allows you to perform your search to locate Shabads. To begin just enter in the first letters of each shabad in a line.

For the Gurmukhi Line

enter the first letters of each shabad.
Enter in Search: ppjk without any spaces.

The search will automatically return results as you type.
Please Note: The auto-search will start after you have typed in the 3rd letter (First Letter Start and First Letter Anywhere mode)

Once you have selected the Gurmukhi Line you will be taken to the Shabad Display screen and the whole Shabad will be populated

03. Search Options

In order to pull up the Search Options screen press the Search Options icon which is located on the navigation bar.


The options are comprised of 3 sections:

  • Search Options
    Show Scrolling Text
    Each Gurmukhi Line in the search results will scroll sideways if the size is greater than the screen
    Gurmukhi Keyboard
    Toggle the Gurmukhi/Qwerty Keyboard. Gurmukhi Keyboard is Default. This will work for First Letter Start, First Letter Anywhere and Full Text (Gurmukhi).

  • Search Mode
    Search By
    This option toggles between different search modes built into iGurbani. Please go to 04. Search Modes for more information.
  • Filtering Options
    Scripture
    This filter will narrow your search results by Scripture. Please go to 05. Search Filter for more information.
    Writer
    This filter will narrow your search results by Writer. Please go to 05. Search Filter for more information.
    Raag
    This filter will narrow your search results by Raag. Please go to 05. Search Filter for more information.

04. Search Modes

In order switch between Search Modes, select the box underneath the title Search Mode in options.


There are 5 different modes:

  • First Letter (Start)
    For the Gurmukhi Line pRB pwis jn kI Ardwis qU scw sWeI ] enter the first letters of each shabad.
    Enter in Search: ppjk without any spaces.
  • First Letter (Anywhere)
    For the Gurmukhi Line pRB pwis jn kI Ardwis qU scw sWeI ] enter ANY first letters of each shabad.
    Enter in Search: jkAqs without any spaces.
  • Ang/Vaar

    To perform an Ang/Vaar search you type in the page number from the keypad and then press the search button which is located in the search bar.

    The default search is performed with all scriptures. To limit the results you can use a search filter discussed in 05. Search Filter.


  • Full Word (Gurmukhi)

    Full Word search will take your search term and locate it within the Gurmukhi text. It will return all results that match the string of text that you enter.

  • Full Word (English)

    Full Word search will take your search term and locate it within the English translation provided by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa text. It will return all results that match the string of text that you enter.

05. Search Filter

In order to narrow your search, select box underneath the title Filtering Options in options.


There are 3 filters you can apply to your search:

  • Scripture

  • Writer

  • Raag

06. Shabad Display

The Shabad Display screen shows the contents of the shabad you have searched.

The various parts that make up this screen are as follows:

Display Options Menu
The display options allow you to customize the Shabad display. Please go to 07. Display Options for more information.
Share Menu
This menu allows you to tweet the Shabad, Add to favorites or report a mistake. Please go to 08. Share Menu for more information.
Next/Previous Shabad
These buttons will allow you to navigate the Shabads as they appear in each scripture. It is a very useful feature while doing a continuous reading of any scripture.
Writer
This field will populate with the name of the Writer of the Shabad/Vaar.
Raag
This field will populate with the name of the Raag for the Shabad.
Ang/Vaar
This field will populate with the Ang/Vaar number for the Shabad.
Shabad View
This is the main display area for the shabad. Note: The Gurbani line that you used to display the Shabad from the search screen will automatically get highlighted and iGurbani will auto scroll to that location. In cases where you pressed the Next/Previous buttons the second line of the Shabad will be highlighted.

07. Display Options

Click on the Menu button to reveal the Display Options Menu.

    Baba Darshan Singh Ji (Mallehwal)

    Short Pause (Jamki) identified by GREEN highlight.
    Long Pause (Vishraam) identified by ORANGE highlight.

  • Vishraam
    Baba Jaswant Singh (Bhagat Ji)

    Bhagat Ji's vishraam are highlighted in purple text.
    Vishraam (Long Pause) is identified by a semicolon ;
    Thamki (Medium Pause) is identified by a period .
    Jamki (Short Pause) is identified by a comma ,

  • Larivaar
  • Transliteration
  • English Translation

08. Share Menu

To enable the Share Menu toggle the Share button.


There are 3 options in the Share Menu:

Tweet Shabad
iGurbani lets you tweet a link to the online version of the current Shabad you are viewing. If you do not have a twitter account you will be prompted to create one.
Report Mistake
In some cases you will see a Shabad that needs correction. The Gurbani could be incorrect or translation might be wrong. This feature will allow you send an email with the problem.
Add to Favorites
Use this button to add the current shabad to your favorites. The highlighted line is what gets stored in your favorites list.

09. Favorites

Favorites are located on the Main Menu.


All of your favorites are stored in the order you added them. You have the ability to remove items from the list by pressing the Edit button or swipe to the left.

10. History

Your search history is located on the search screen.


This list is populated everytime you search a shabad and it get displayed. The list is ordered by date and shows the most recent search. You cannot delete individual entries but using the Clear All button you can delete all entries.

Landscape Support
This version of iGurbani only supports portrait orientation.
Gutka
Sundar Gutka will allow you to read the Daily Prayers in a window that will allow autoscrolling.
Scripture Index
This feature will be identical to the Tatkara for Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and the Amrit Kirtan Pothi.
Multi-Shabad Display
iGurbani only allows for one Shabad to be displayed at a time. This feature will allow multiple Shabads to be displayed and you will be able to switch between them just like you can when you open up another window in Safari.
